My mom always made this for us when I was growing up. I love cabbage, she made this dish during bad weather days. Especially on her bread making days with hot Parker House Rolls. Of which I carried on the tradition.
Ingredients
12 large cabbage leaves
1 1/4Â lb ground round or pork
2Â tsp sea salt
1/2Â tsp pepper
1Â c rice (cooked)
1Â small onion (chopped)
1Â large egg
1/2Â tsp poultry seasoning or thyme
2Â Tbsp wesson oil
2Â can(s) tomato sauce
1Â Tbsp brown sugar, lightly packed
1Â Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/4 c cold water
Directions
1. Place cabbage leaves in bowl and cover with boiling water let stand 5 minutes while preparing other ingredients.
2. Combine the next 7 ingredients. Place equal portions in the center of each leaf. Fold sides of leaf roll up and fasten with toothpick or string.
3. Brown Cabbage rolls in hot, very large skillet. Pour in tomato sauce, combine sugar, vinegar,and water. Pour half of the sauce on the bottom and place cabbage rolls in sauce, then pour the rest on top. Cover and Simmer 1 hour basting occasionally. Serve Hot…..
