My mother always made these for me and my sisters as a child and when I married she made them for us too. My daughters wanted these also when they grew up. My grandchildren enjoy making them, they help to cut the holes, and they dip them in sugar. They taste great served warm.
A quick and easy recipe that kids can help with. Back before there were doughnut shops on every corner, this was a popular way to get doughnuts in the morning. It’s super simple, and can be done in less than 30 minutes. Outside they’re golden brown, crisp and crunchy. But the inside is soft and fluffy. We love rolling them in cinnamon sugar, but a glaze or powdered sugar would also be delicious. It’s perfect for either brunch, or a nice morning.

Prep time:Â 15 Min
Serves: 4
Ingredients
1Â can buttermilk biscuits (8 oz)
1/2Â c granulated sugar
1Â tsp ground cinnamon
1 1/2 c cooking oil
Directions
Tips: We used a 1M piping tip to cut the center holes in the biscuits. A wooden BBQ skewer is perfect for flipping the doughnuts and remove them from the oil. Also, we did drain the doughnuts on a paper towel for a few minutes before coating.
1. Heat cooking oil in a small skillet.
2. In a shallow dish, mix sugar and cinnamon well.
3. Separate biscuits and cut 1″ hole in the center with a cookie cutter (we use a water bottle lid). Save cut out holes for cooking.
4. Drop 3 or 4 biscuits into hot oil and cook until golden brown.
5. Flip them over and cook opposite side. Do the same thing with the holes.
6. Remove from oil and dredge in the sugar mixture and put on a seperate plate to cool.
7. Note: You could also coat with powdered sugar.
