This delicious apple pie has a crunchy topping that is super tasty and makes it stand out. Gala apples make a great choice.

Cook time: 15 Min
Prep time: 20 Min
Serves: 8

Ingredients

1 deep dish pie crust, baked (to save time, use frozen pie crust)
1/2 c walnuts, chopped
1/2 c plain flour
1/2 c light brown sugar, packed
4 Tbsp melted margarine
1 egg, white only
1/4 c sugar
2 Tbsp corn starch
1 tsp cinnamon
3 lb gala apples
1 Tbsp lemon juice

Directions

1. Use a fork to poke the crust’s bottom and sides. Bake at 375° for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden. Brush the sides and bottom of the hot crust immediately with some egg white. Set oven to 425°F.

2. Mix the pecans, brown sugar, and flour in a large bowl while the crust bakes. Use your fingertips to mix butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.

3. In a large bowl combine cinnamon, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Add the lemon juice and apples to the bowl. Wrap in waxed paper. Microwave on high for 12 minutes, stirring halfway. Place filling in crust. Sprinkle the pecan topping on top of the filling. Bake the pie for 10-12 minutes, or until the topping is golden. Let cool on a wire rack.
